For Debbie Hoadley, success is being happy with what you have while working for what you want.

“The key to a lot of things is you don’t have to like it, but you do have to accept it to have some kind of peace,” says the personal support worker (PSW) from Carveth Care Centre on a warm spring morning in May 2018.

“It’s important to move on. It’s also important to be happy and kind.”

Blessed with wisdom and contentment, Debbie smiles brightly at the news she is the home’s Employee of the Month for June.

“It took me by surprise,” she says with a grin. “There were no words to express my appreciation.”

A member of the nursing department for almost three years, Debbie won the award for her dedication and professionalism.

“Debbie comes to Carveth with a positive attitude and ready to work,” explains Lynn Vereecken, Assistant Director of Care. “Her priority is the care of the residents. She takes the time to listen to them and meet their needs. She is always available to help us when we are short-staffed.”

“I’ll do anything,” says Debbie about her role at the accredited long-term care home in Gananoque. “But I like to work in the background. I do what I do because I love what I do. I like being on the floor, working with the residents.”

Smiling brightly, the 50-year-old mother of three travels from Kingston to provide health care to residents of Gananoque.

“I love my job,” says Debbie quickly, when asked about her work. “I love it just as much as the day I started. The residents are awesome.”

Asked to describe herself, the friendly woman says she is easygoing and has a good sense of humour.

When she’s not at work, Debbie enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. She hopes to work at Carveth as long as possible.

“This home is special to me because I work here,” she notes kindly. “Life is what you make it and it’s pretty special to me.”

Carveth Care Centre is grateful for the good work of Debbie Hoadley. To learn more about living or working in our home, please call 613-382-4752.
