A retirement home in Amherstview is showcasing its award winning programs and services at an open house this fall.

Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge, an accredited retirement home owned and operated by the Gibson family, is opening its doors to the public on Sept. 24 from 1 to 4 pm.

The open house is part of a province-wide initiative by the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) to showcase services for people looking for assisted living. The open house will also introduce residents and dynamic/dedicated staff.

Featuring the taste, sound and beauty of Canada, Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge Fall Open House will feature warm apple cider, fresh cinnamon buns and entertainment by local musicians. Admission is free and open to everyone.

“We hope the community takes advantage of this opportunity to tour our retirement lodge and meet our friendly staff,” says Angela Gibson, Assistant Administrator.

“The Fall Open House is a great way to taste the delicious food prepared in our kitchen and enjoy the spectacular entertainment we have on a regular basis. As a family run business, we truly understand the importance of family and meeting the needs of each individual.”

Managers and team members will be on-hand to guide visitors through the layout to fully appreciate the living space such as the dining room, common areas, activity rooms, living quarters and more.

Guests will also have the opportunity to meet residents such as Ian Bathgate and Jeannette Labossiere who live at Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge. Together for 40 years, the couple likes to socialize with friends. Smiling on a warm summer afternoon in August, they admit they love their full and active life.

“I like it here. It’s relaxing,” confirms Ian, 89. “It’s safer than the apartments in Amherstview where we used to live. It’s been good here.”

“I was getting to the point that I had to something,” adds Jeannette, who is legally blind. “I was carrying a walker up and downstairs and it was getting to be too much.”

Pointing gently to Jeanette, 81, Ian notes, “She can do things, but she needs help.”

Nodding her head in agreement, she replies with a smile, “I used to have one good eye, but it went on me.”

The couple appreciates the care and support they receive at the home, including the convenience of having everything on one level.

“This open house is a perfect time to drop-in and discover an environment that meets your current requirements as well as your future needs,” says the Assistant Administrator “We want the community to see what makes Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge special. Come home to Helen Henderson and let our family care for your family.”
