A Personal Support Worker at a long-term care home in Gananoque has received her first workplace award.

Elissa Kemp, 29, smiles at the news she is Carveth Care Centre’s Employee of the Month for February 2023.

“It’s nice. I didn’t expect it,” Elissa says happily about the recognition.

Speaking from her home in Rockport in late January, Elissa confirms she has worked at the popular home for the past two years.

“I really like it,” she replies, when asked about her job. “I love working with the residents. I like being able to help them by doing little things that make a difference. I really like getting to know them.”

Although she hasn’t been at the home long, Elissa has already made a positive impact.

Speaking on behalf of Carveth Care Centre, Director of Care Shelley Bender notes, “We have enjoyed watching Elissa grow from a student here on placement, to the great PSW she is today. Elissa is a very caring and gentle individual. She works hard to ensure each resident’s need are well looked after. She never hesitates to go over and above to get the job done.  We are very fortunate to have Elissa as a team member.”

Pleased with the feedback, Elissa says kindly, “The staff are nice here, the nurses as well. I love it here.”

Asked to describe herself, she replies quickly, “I’m a pretty easygoing person.”

When she’s not at work, Elissa can be found enjoying the outdoors with her boyfriend. “I’m pretty active,” she notes. “We enjoy snowmobiling, four wheeling and boating. The water is our favourite place to be.”
