A young woman with a cheerful energy, Chelsea is the staff spotlight for September at Carveth Care Centre, a popular retirement lodge and long-term care home in Gananoque where she has worked as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) for more than seven years.

Speaking from the home in early August 2024, Chelsea smiles when asked about her job providing frontline health care to 104 residents.

“It’s rewarding,” she says kindly. “I try to care for the residents like they are my family. It’s why I’m here.”

At 29 years old, Chelsea is the proud owner of two dogs. When she’s not at work, she can be found walking her pets or boating. She also spends her time renovating her house (painting and flooring) and enjoys using her Cricut art machine.

“I’m crafty,” she says with a smile.

Asked to describe herself, she uses words such as creative, compassionate, outgoing and kind. She has considered bridging the RPN program, but hasn’t pursued it because enjoys her work as a PSW.

“I like the hands-on care that is possible as a PSW,” she explains about her current job that is earning her accolades.

Speaking on behalf of the home, Director of Care Shelley Bender notes, “Chelsea is certainly deserving of this praise. She is a positive person and a great help in the orientation of new staff. She is always striving to ensure our residents receive quality care. We are very fortunate to have her on our team.”
