A young nurse in Amherstview has been recognized for her good work helping residents at a retirement home in Amherstview.

“I love it here, I really do,” says Rebecca Timson, 31, when asked about her job for the past six months as a Registered Practical Nurse at Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge. “I like how you get to see the person behind the illness here as opposed to treating just the illness in an acute care setting.”

Rebecca joined the home after her maternity leave for her son, Max. Prior to joining the home, she was a nurse at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston.

“I feel like I’ve found the perfect job,” she says with a smile. “I even picked a house close to here so I can walk to work. It’s nice to get fresh air before and after lunch.”

She smiles when informed she is the home’s Employee of the Month for April 2022.

“Rebecca is a wonderful asset to our lodge,” says Manager Erin Woodcox. “She is loved by the residents and staff alike. We couldn’t be happier to have her on our team and part of the Helen Henderson family.”

Pleased with this workplace award, Rebecca admits, “I wasn’t expecting this. It’s very sweet. I appreciate it. Thank you.”

In her spare time, Rebecca likes to spend time with her family and scuba dive in the summer.

“We’re outdoorsy people, we like to camp,” she says about her family.

Asked to describe herself, she uses words such as people-person, helpful and optimistic.

“I’ve been told I have a good sense of humour,” she adds kindly. “I’ll jump in and do anything for anyone.”

Her goal is to expand her family.

“Growing my family would probably be my biggest priority,” she replies when asked about her goals and dreams. “This job is my biggest dream. Coming here was the best decision I ever made for myself and my family because I want my son to know it’s good to work. He sees me happy in this job and making a difference in peoples’ lives.”

Questions for Rebecca

If you could rule the world, what would you do on day one?

“I’d end violence in the world.”

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

“The power to predict the future.”

If you weren’t at your current job, what would you be doing?

“I have no idea because this job makes me so happy. I’d probably be back at Providence Care or at home with my son.”

Helen Henderson Care Centre is grateful for the good work of Rebecca Timson. To learn more about living or working in our home, please call 613-384-4585.
