Shannon Lyman loves taking care of the elderly which is evident from her work at Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge in Amherstview.

Speaking from the popular home in late November 2023, the friendly 46-year-old smiles when she talks about providing frontline health care to 65 residents.

“I absolutely love it here,” she says with her trademark enthusiasm. “I have always enjoyed working with the elderly. I really like the residents.”

Known for her reliability and good work since she started working at the home more than one year ago, Shannon is the Employee of the Month for December at Helen Henderson Care Centre.

“Shannon is an amazing worker who is loved by staff and residents,” says Erin Woodcox, Lodge Manager. “She goes above and beyond for all.”

Asked to describe herself, Shannon says she is usually quiet and reserved, but the residents bring her out of her shell. A proud mother of three and grandmother of one, she loves to spend time with her family and friends. When she’s not working as a Residential Aide, she can be found at home in Tamworth with her goats, chickens, dogs, and cats.

Speaking from the lodge dining room with the warmth of a nearby fireplace, Shannon says she has worked at other places, but finds the lodge special. “I enjoy the atmosphere, here,” she notes. “It’s homey. And the residents are so appreciative of our help. They become family. There’s something different to do every day and I always have a good laugh. It’s very enjoyable.”

Helen Henderson Care Centre is grateful for the good work of Shannon Lyman, a Residential Aide in our Retirement Lodge. To learn more about living or working in our home, please call 613-384-4585.
