Couple celebrates 72 years of marriage Featured
It may not be the longest marriage in history, but it could be the happiest.
Margaret and Bill Campsall of Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge celebrated a remarkable milestone last Friday.
On that day - 72 years ago - they were married.
To celebrate their anniversary, Bill, 93 and Margaret, 89, went to a country dance where they wowed the crowd with their two-step.
Looking happy and healthy two days after their anniversary, the lovebirds smile brightly and reveal their secret to a long and happy marriage: Don't go to bed angry.
"We've never had a fight," says Bill proudly.
"We've had a few friendly arguments, though," says Margaret with a smile.
Residents of Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge in Amherstview for more than two years, the couple has three children (one surviving), seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
At the time of their wedding in the parsonage of Cataraqui United Church, Bill was 6'1 and weight 124 pounds. Margaret was 117 pounds.
After their wedding at 11 am on Sept. 15, 1945, they went to Belleville for their honeymoon. They have spent the past 72 years taking care of each other.
