Celebrating 65 years of love Featured
True love never dies, it only gets stronger with time.
That is the sentiment of an Amherstview couple who are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary tomorrow.
Hans and Aaltje Beskers were married on July 14, 1955 in the Netherlands. After travelling around the world for work, the family moved to Amherstview in 1967.
65 years later after saying ‘I do’, Hans and Aaltje remain devoted to each other. Their marriage has produced three children and four grandchildren.
Speaking on behalf of Helen Henderson Care Centre where Hans resides in the retirement lodge and Aaltje lives in the nursing home, Administrator Lisa Gibson notes, “It is amazing to see a long-lasting love story like Hans and Aaltje’s. It is definitely something to celebrate and strive-for.”
“It’s nice to see a couple so much in love,” adds Chelsea Boomhour, an Activity Aide who helped the couple write love letters to each other which they will receive tomorrow through staff. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the couple is not able to cross through the home and meet in person.
In her card to Hans, Aaltje says her life is better because of him.
In his card to Aaltje, Hans says that even if it takes a year, he will always wait for her. Hans told his wife he misses her.
“I enjoyed this project,” says Chelsea with a smile. “It was cute to see the heartfelt messages of love.”
Chelsea created memory collages of the couple and their family. The couple will receive the pictures, cards, and a Facetime call tomorrow on their anniversary.
“This was something small I could do for them,” says Chelsea kindly. “It was heartwarming.”
