Young laundry attendant recognized for good work at nursing home Featured
Hannah Smith hasn’t worked in the Housekeeping Department at Carveth Care Centre for long, but she’s already made a great first impression.
Only 22 years old, the Gananoque woman is the Employee of the Month for May at the popular home in Gananoque. Her supervisor, Julie Dennison, is grateful to have Hannah as part of the team.
“Hannah is a hard worker who is polite and eager to learn. When she arrived three months ago, she caught on extremely fast. We appreciate her willingness to take on any task. She has a great work ethic and is already a valued member of the Carveth family.”
Hannah smiles at the feedback and notes, “I really like it here. I like that it is a family atmosphere.”
Speaking from the home in mid-April 2023, Hannah says the best part of her day is interacting with residents while she cleans rooms and clothes.
Asked to describe herself, she uses words such as happy, compassionate and a good listener. “I like helping others,” she attests.
When she’s not at work, Hannah likes to spend time with her five-year-old daughter and work on her house. She is also training for a half marathon in Ottawa this fall.
“I’m a little boring, I don’t’ have much of a life,” she says with a laugh. “I work, take care of my daughter and run, that’s about it.”
Looking ahead, Hannah hopes to continue her studies to help her advance professionally at the home where she hopes to spend the rest of her career.
“I love my job and my coworkers. They’re great,” she says.
