A hardworking Residential Aide with a caring attitude is retiring from a business that holds a special place in her heart.

Gloria Todd’s voice breaks as she talks about leaving her job of 26 years at Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge in Amherstview.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better job,” says the friendly 67-year-old with remorse. “I’m going to miss it.”

As a Residential Aide at the retirement lodge, Gloria provided frontline health care to more than 70 residents. She is well-loved by residents, families, and staff.

“The work family was awesome along with the extended family of residents,” she explains. “I enjoyed my job and work relationships. It’s going to leave a big void.”

Proud mother of two and grandmother of three, Gloria plans to spend more time with her family. She knows it’s important to keep busy and plans to find a volunteer role, eventually. She is already planning to return to the home to spend birthdays and holidays with residents who don’t have family or visitors.

“It’s important to me that they’re not alone,” she explains.

“Gloria is an excellent worker who cares deeply for the residents,” says Lodge Manager Erin Woodcox. “She will be missed by staff and residents.”

Gloria says she has the utmost respect for management and staff at the home.

“They make it so much fun,” she says with a smile. “It’s been amazing.”

Speaking on behalf of the popular home at a party on Oct. 20, 2023, Administrator Lisa Gibson notes, “Gloria will be greatly missed. Everyone was family to her, and she made them truly feel at home. She always went above and beyond in her work. She exemplifies our values by putting residents’ wellbeing first. We will miss her terribly and wish her the best in retirement.”

Helen Henderson Care Centre wishes a happy and healthy retirement to Gloria Todd. To learn more about living or working in our home, please call 613-384-4585.
