There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.

Angela Ballantyne knows this well.

A Personal Support Worker at Carveth Care Centre in Gananoque, Angela has been lifting people up since she started working at the long-term care home almost 18 years ago.

“I love my job,” she says with a smile in November 2018. “I’ve been doing it for 18 years. If I didn’t love it, there’s something wrong.”

Dressed in scrubs, the 53-old-year Kingston woman was recently honoured by residents and staff who named her the home’s Employee of the Month for December.

“Angela helped a resident before she was on duty,” explains Kelly Forbes, one of several staff members who nominated Angela for the award.

“Angela took me to my dentist appointment,” adds Helen Whaley, a resident of the home who seconded the nomination.

“Angela has been a long-serving employee who has dedicated herself to her profession,” confirms Brett Gibson, Administrator. “I am very happy she is being recognized by her peers and residents. Angela comes to work ready to do the task that is in front of her and handles herself in a very professional manner.”

Grateful for the recognition, Angela admits she is enjoys working with residents and staff.

“There’s a great group of girls here I’ve worked with for years. They’ve become good friends. I just wish I had more time to spend with the residents,” she says kindly.

Married with two children, Angela describes herself by saying, “I think I’m a very giving person. I would do just about anything for anyone. I just care about people.”

Recently returned from a trip to Mexico, she enjoys travelling and shopping. She moved to Kingston last August after living in Mallorytown for 12 years.

“I just love it,” she says about her new home.

Prone to taking each day as it comes, Angela hopes to retire before she turns 60.

“I just hope that when I’m done this job, people will look back and say I did a good job,” she says sincerely.
