Raven Graham has a lot going on for only 17 years old.

She is a Dietary Aide at Helen Henderson Care Centre and studies carpentry at St. Lawrence College while winding-up her high school credits.

She beams with energy and curiosity, qualities that helped her win her first workplace award at the popular retirement lodge/long-term care home in Amherstview where she started as a dishwasher in November 2021. The home named her Employee of the Month for December 2022.

Asked about her work assisting in the dining room and kitchen, she notes, “I love it, it’s so much better than dishwashing.”

Speaking on behalf of the home, Food Nutrition Services Manager Shaun Stephenson says, “Raven has been a great addition to our team, both as a student and now as Dietary Aide. She’s always cheerful and ready to help wherever needed.”

Seemingly pleased with the feedback and grateful for her first workplace award, Raven admits, “This award is pretty cool. This is my first job. I think I worked hard, and it’s paid off. It feels nice.”

According to Raven, the best part of her job is interacting with the residents which has prompted her to consider studying recreational therapy so she can become an Activity Aide at the home.

Asked about her interests outside of work, she admits she just got her driver’s license.

“I like to drive around because I need to practice,” she says with a smile.

Down the proverbial road, she’d like to fly to Greece and travel around the eastern Mediterranean country in a van.

Questions for Raven

If you could rule the world, what would you do on day-one?

“I’d lower the gas prices. That would be nice.”

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

“That’s an easy one. I’d teleport.”

If you weren’t at your current job, what would you be doing?

“I’d probably still be going to school and finding something that I love that makes good money.”
