Carveth Care Centre is growing.

A retirement lodge and long-term care home in Gananoque, Carveth, as it is affectionately known, recently welcomed a Care Coordinator to its ranks.

A new position at the home, the coordinator’s job is to work with the families of the 104 residents in long-term care.

Speaking from her office in late September 2023, Sherri Deschamps smiles brightly when asked about her role for the past two months as Care Coordinator.

“I’m enjoying the work; it’s interesting. Every day is different,” she attests. “My focus is the families. I participate in care conferences and talk to them about their loved ones’ health care.

In addition to those duties, Sherri is also responsible for documenting care levels in the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), building care plans and leading the Responsive Behaviours’ Team.

Before Sherri joined the workforce at Carveth, she was as a Clinical Planner with ParaMed Home Health Care Services. Her connections to Carveth include a great grandmother who resided at the home and a grandmother who volunteered here. Her cousin worked here as a Registered Nurse.

“It’s known as a great place to work,” she concedes.

Speaking on behalf of the home, Administrator Brett Gibson notes, “We are excited to have Sherri assume the position of Care Coordinator. This role is something we have wanted to introduce for some time now but wanted to find the right person. Our residents’ needs are complex and ever-changing. Hiring Sherri to look after these daily needs is critical to the success of the quality health care we want to provide.”

Married with two children, the 49-year-old Kingston woman smiles at the feedback and admits, “I’m happy for the opportunity.”

Carveth Care Centre is grateful for the skill and expertise of our new Care Coordinator, Sherri Deschamps. To learn more about living or working in our home, please call 613-382-4752.
