Lisa Neabel knows no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

Sitting in her workplace on a late September morning, the petite blond smiles brightly when talking about her duties as a Housekeeping Aide.

Married with children, Lisa has been performing acts of kindness at Helen Henderson Care Centre in Amherstview for 13 years.

“I love it, I always have,” she says about her job. “I love the residents and their family members.”

Known for her hard work and caring attitude, Lisa was named the home’s Employee of the Month for October.

The popular woman was presented with the award by Angela Gibson, Assistant Administrator.

“I’ve met a lot of people in my lifetime and Lisa Neabel is someone I will forever cherish knowing,” says the senior manager. “She is genuinely caring and an overall great person. These qualities are always present when she is surrounded by co-workers and residents. Lisa is adored by all and is extremely deserving of this award.”

The Housekeeping Aide blushes from the recognition.

“I feel so proud people feel this way,” she admits. “I felt very honoured. I couldn’t believe it was happening.”

Modest and humble, Lisa seems to come by her kindness honestly.

“I’m very fun-loving,” she says with a smile. “You take me anywhere and I can make people laugh. I try not to take things too seriously or for granted.”

When she’s not at work, Lisa can be found walking, swimming or accompanying her husband to medical appointments. Her husband, Danny, was diagnosed with kidney cancer on June 28, 2013.

The diagnosis was a blow to Lisa who lost her mother and brother to cancer.

Frustrated with the disease that is hurting the people she loves, the loss she has suffered has made her appreciate her blessings in life.

“I’m thankful for what I still have,” she says softly. “My dream is to make the most of life with my husband while we can.”
