Friendly PSW named Employee of the Month
A personal support worker at Helen Henderson Care Centre has been recognized by her coworkers for work excellence.
Colleen Bencze, 41, is the home’s Employee of the Month for November.
“Colleen is an amazing personal support worker (PSW) who quietly goes about providing tender compassionate care to the residents of this home,” says Sue Reynolds, Director of Care.
“Colleen’s peers, residents and families praise her care and the calm, kind way she has with the residents. We are very fortunate to have found such an amazing PSW to be part of our team. We are truly blessed. Thank you to Colleen for all that she brings to our home, including bringing her husband to play baseball with us this summer, helping our home win the game.”
Married with two children, Colleen admits she was surprised to win the award.
“There’s a lot of staff who have been here a long time,” she says kindly.
A resident of Perth Road Village in Frontenac County, Colleen has worked at the home for almost seven years.
“I like it,” she replies when asked about her work assisting 104 residents with daily living. “This is homier than the places I worked before.”
“I like caring for people,” she continues. “They feel like family to me. It’s like taking care of my grandparents.”
Asked to describe herself, Colleen says, “I try to be relaxed. I try to be happy. It takes more effort to be unhappy all the time. Happiness comes more naturally to me.”
When she’s not at work, Colleen is a busy hockey & dance mom.
“The kids are definitely our main priority right now,” she says lovingly. “We work hard to make sure we have a well-balanced home for them.”
