A kitchen worker at a long-term care home in Gananoque has been recognized for her good work.

34-year-old Amanda Gamble has worked at Carveth Care Centre for the past 15 years. She is the home’s Employee of the Month for October 2022.

“Amanda is dependable, organized and works well with others,” says supervisor Theresa Running. She will always pick-up a shift when needed. She’s extremely strong and can lift a horse over her head. On top of all that, she is always smiling.”

Amanda laughs at the comment and admits that she has never actually lifted a horse over her head, but she does lift heavy items in the kitchen.

“I have great co-workers,” she says with a chuckle. “We get along well in the kitchen and make good food.”

As a Dietary Aide, Amanda helps prepare dining rooms and serve meals.

Speaking from her home in Lansdowne in mid-September 2022, the friendly woman responds when asked about her workplace award, “I’m happy about it, I’m surprised.”

“I love visiting with the residents and talking with them,” she attests. “I don’t cook at work, but I cook at home. I’m a decent cook. I like to bake.”

Asked to describe herself, she uses words such as easy going, happy and a good sense of humour. When she’s not at work, she likes to spend time with her family, read and go fishing.

She admits she is content in life and appreciates her good job, loving husband and healthy son named Logan who is one.

“We’re happy,” she explains. “It took us a long time to have a child. He’s pretty spoiled.”
