Helen Henderson Care Centre has earned provincial recognition for its work with retirees.

Home to thousands of residents over the past 31 years, the Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge just received the highest professional status for retirement homes in Ontario.

On Nov. 26, the lodge was accredited by the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA). It was the home’s first attempt to obtain the three-year designation.

The accreditation is a prestigious accomplishment because it is hard to achieve. It shows the home meets, or exceeds, a rigorous set of industry standards.

“I think it speaks volumes about our staff, managers and our team as a whole,” explains Assistant Administrator Angela Gibson about passing the extensive accreditation process by ORCA who oversees the rights of residents in retirement homes.

“We don’t work for recognition, but we do work worthy of recognition. This accreditation is a great example of how hard our staff work and how much they care about our residents. They always go the extra mile.”

“I’m extremely proud of this accomplishment,” adds Yvonne McGinn, Lodge Manager.

“It shows our team is providing the highest quality health care in Ontario.”

Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge is part of Helen Henderson Care Centre; a family owned and operated retirement and long-term care home in Amherstview. The long-term care operation has received accreditation status for years.

Administrator Lisa Gibson-Burgess is pleased with the retirement lodge accreditation.

“Helen Henderson Care Centre has always believed in the accreditation process because it is consistent with our organization’s commitment to constant quality improvement,” says the third generation family member to serve as Administrator of Helen Henderson Care Centre.

“Our team is proud to pass the ORCA Accreditation process and we are committed to ensuring our residents receive the best retirement living possible.”

Located on the shore of Lake Ontario in Amherstview, Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge is home to approximately 70 residents.

“Accreditation of the Helen Henderson Retirement Lodge is a perfect way to end a great year,” says Gibson about 2015; a year that marked the 50th Anniversary of Gibson Family Health Care.

“We are now known as one the best retirement homes in South East Ontario and we are committed to setting the industry standard.”
