Colin Williams is grateful for the little things in life.

Only 39 years old, Colin is a maintenance worker who has experienced such extreme highs and lows, his values and attitude have shifted.

“I don’t worry about the small stuff anymore,” says the friendly man, almost two years after one of the lowest points of his life.

Colin credits that time, when his professional and personal life where in turmoil, as the reason for his attitude of gratitude. Wearing a smile in the summer of 2018, he sees his work at Helen Henderson Care Centre as a new beginning.

“I love it,” he exclaims when asked about his job for the past 1 1/2 years fixing and maintaining the retirement lodge and long-term care home’s equipment and property.

As a medical equipment repairman before joining the maintenance department at Helen Henderson Care Centre, Colin is adept at solving mechanical problems.

“I do everything,” he says when asked to describe his job. “Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, I do it all.”

A proud father of two boys, Colin notes with sincerity, “My favourite part is being helpful.”

Known for his friendly demeanour and positive attitude, Colin was chosen by staff as the Employee of the Month for September.

“I’ve been with Colin for three weeks,” says Tim Keyes, the home’s new Environmental Supervisor. “In that time, his work ethic has been great. He’s a likeable guy around the home and is great with residents.”

Asked to describe himself, Colin replies with a laugh, “Chaotic. I’m definitely a problem solver. Optimistic. Creative. I do a lot of artistic things.”

When he’s not at work or busy with his children, Colin enjoys writing and producing digital music. He also paints and sculpts which he taught himself.

“I don’t like the word can’t,” he says kindly.

Helen Henderson Care Centre is grateful for the creativity of Colin Williams. To learn more about living or working in our home, please call 613-384-4585.
