Brenda Wilson is living proof, energy and persistence conquer all things.

A Personal Support Worker at Helen Henderson Care Centre for the past 33 years, the 62-year-old is powered by passion.

“I love anything to do with movement,” says the attractive brunette about her interests such as running, speed-walking and swimming.

“I don’t mean to blow my own horn, but I’m very, very fast. I still think I can keep up with anyone half my age. I’m very active.”

A respect worker in the long-term care home, Brenda is the home’s Employee of the Month for April.

“I like helping people,” she explains about her motive and philosophy. If I could turn back the clock, I’d work in physiotherapy. I’ve always loved anything to do with motion and exercise.”

“Brenda is refreshing,” says Melissa Locke, Assistant Director of Care. “She is always full of energy, smiles and happiness. No matter what’s going on, she doesn’t let problems show. She’s truly here for the residents.”

A proud mother and grandmother, Brenda doesn’t hesitate when asked to describe herself. “I like to make people laugh. I’m a real musher for hugs and kisses.”

Asked about her job and workplace, Brenda admits, “I love the residents. There’s always going to be days when there’s stress. But overall, it’s a nice place to work. I can’t envision working anywhere else.”

Prior to working at the popular home in Amherstview, she worked as a bank teller and was primary caregiver for her sick mother.

Nowadays, she enjoys making lists, painting and working outside.

“I’m busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she admits. “I like to move fast and get a lot accomplished.”
